Let’s dive in and explore these essential elements crucial for our well-being alongside nutrition
As pillars of Functional Medicine, we believe that all elements are essential for preventing disease and keeping our amazing bodies in balance, or at least getting us back to balance if we’re a bit out of kilter!
Our first pillar is Movement – The Ultimate Prescription for a Healthy Life!
While we all probably know that movement is good for us, there is a wealth of academic studies to back up the benefits of exercise to our health. In fact, it’s what keeps us young and vital. Sarcopenia (muscle loss) is one of the signs of aging, which leads to our bodies feeling more feeble, and why a fall at age 80 could lead to a broken hip as opposed to a fall at age 30.
Over the next few weeks we will be delving deeper into the following benefits of movement:
- Improved Mental Health
- Enhanced Cardiovascular Health
- Weight Management Wonder
- Increased Energy and Vitality
- Disease Prevention Powerhouse
Don’t worry if you don’t have a fitness routine yet, we all have to start sometime!
We would recommend starting small and celebrating the little wins. The more you do, the more you will be able to do! Add simple movement into your daily tasks, like taking the stairs instead of the lift, cycling to a neighbours house, a quick walk around the block before your breakfast, etc.
You are not going to stick with a movement routine that you don’t enjoy, so finding a fitness activity that you like is crucial. Not everyone wants to run or lift weights, so how about badminton or Seit dancing?
Remember, it’s not just about working out. It’s a prescription for a vibrant, fulfilling life!
